Dignity in Every Home

Dignity in Every Home

About this project

Domestic workers are an important part of millions of South African homes and families. But the home is also a workplace, and every domestic worker has the right to fair, dignified and lawful employment.

Dignity in Every Home is a national campaign developed with the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) and Izwi Domestic Workers Alliance to help domestic workers understand their rights and employers understand their responsibilities.

Edge worked with SERI and Izwi to take often complicated employment law and turn it into clear, practical information that people can understand and use. We brought the campaign to life across social media, paid advertising, website resources, interactive tools, media outreach and community engagement, supported by an offline campaign that distributed 10,000 flyers across Johannesburg.

The campaign generated 403 700 paid impressions, more than 20 400 ad clicks and 10 400 website sessions, helping thousands of workers and employers access practical information and support.

At its heart is a simple idea that guides the campaign and the work we do on it: domestic work is real work, and dignity starts at home.
